Paris, 1849. Julot, quatorze ans, apprend le métier d’ouvrier typographe chez le père Girard. Il imprime le journal L’Évènement qui publie les discours de Victor Hugo. Le petit Micloche vend le journal sur les boulevards et sa sœur Flora, douze ans, est blanchisseuse. Entre Julot et Flora, une belle amitié débute.
