Descriere - Pharmaceutical technology of non-sterile liquid solutions. Lecture Notes
Preface
From all industries, the pharmaceutical industry is the most regulated in the entire world, due to the potential threat to a patient's life from the use of pharmaceutical products. The science and the art of pharmaceutical formulation is continuously evolving, as new materials, machines and methods produce more reliable, stable and controlled release formulations.
At the same time, globalization of pharmaceuticals brings challenges to regulatory authorities. This translates in more frequent revisions of the current good manufacturing practices, approval dossier requirements, with the growing need for cost optimization. While liquid medication does not share the problems encountered in other pharmaceutical formulations (compression problems of solid dosage forms, filling problems of powders or consistency problems of semisolid forms), they do have their own set of considerations in the formulation and manufacturing phases.
Because of the complexity of the pharmaceutical forms (sterile and non sterile solutions, suspensions, emulsions, aerosols, ointments, suppositories, powders, tablets, capsules etc.), the present textbook focuses only on the pharmaceutical technology of non-sterile liquid dosage forms (non-sterile solutions). From the Pharmaceutical Technology point of view, the following will be detailed in this text book:
- general and specific operations in pharmaceutical research;
- formulation of new drugs;
- ensuring stability of pharmaceutical preparations;
- conditioning of pharmaceutical preparations;
- drug bioavailability;
- quality control.
The present textbook entitled Pharmaceutical technology of non-sterile liquid solutions - Lecture notes was created with the intention to consolidate he available knowledge about liquid non-sterile dosage forms into a comprehensive presentation useful especially for pharmacy students, but also for pharmacy residents, community and hospital registered pharmacists.
