Mariana Net este profesor universitar si cercetator stiintific la Institutul de Lingvistica „Iorgu Iordan – Al. Rosetti†al Academiei Romane.
A publicat peste o suta de studii si articole de poetica, semiotica, studii culturale si filosofie a limbajului in reviste de specialitate, volume colective si acte de congrese, aparute in tara si in strainatate.
A fost conferentiar invitat in Italia (1992, 1995, 2000), Polonia (1985, 2003, 2005), Ungaria (1990), Belgia (1990), Austria (1990, 1992, 1996, 1999, 2000, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005), Germania (1991, 1999), SUA (1992), Canada (1992), Franta (1993, 1995, 1996, 2002, 2004), Finlanda (1995), Grecia (1997), Rusia (2001), Republica Ceha (2003, 2005, 2006).
In 1993 a predat un curs intensiv intr-un program de D.E.A. la Universitatea of Perpignan (Franta). In 1997 and 2002 a predat la Early-Fall School of Semiotics organizata de New Bulgarian University.
